ABOUT ME

IMG_7924_edited.png

I've worked as a staff writer at both a major metropolitan newspaper and a national magazine, but for the past 12 years I've worked as an independent (freelance) journalist.

I've written about England's Jurassic Coast for Travel & Leisure, described the nuances of natural wines for Food and Wineand explored Germany's transition away from nuclear energy for Vox. But most of my writing has been in the health and science space.

Between 2014 and 2018, I wrote a weekly health column for TIME.com, which was called You Asked. Since 2018, I've done something similar for Medium, where I'm followed by ~350k subscribers. I'm still a frequent contributor at TIME, and I also write regularly for the New York Times. My work has received awards from both the Society of Professional Journalists and the Maryland, Delaware, and D.C. Press Association.

I'm originally from Detroit, but right now I live in southeast Germany with my wife and two kids.
